TyLoo stun SK in Sydney; Cloud9 beat Grayhound
TyLoo have pulled off the first upset of IEM Sydney after beating SK Gaming in overtime, while Cloud9 breezed past Grayhound.
The match between SK and TYLOO began with Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo and co. looking strong on the CT-side as they secured the first three rounds of the game. TYLOO were then able to snag their buy round, but there was now followup as SK pressed on and took a 6-1 lead.
In the following round, Hansel "BnTeT" Ferdinand's triple HaoWen "somebody" Xu's and double kill allowed TYLOO to secure the post plant on A. But once again, SK ended the celebration with three more added to the lead. SK looked to secure their fourth in a row, but FalleN could not come out on top of the 1v1 retake. After that, the Chinese team would add two more to their tally to bring the deficit to five rounds by the end of the half.
In the second half, SK came out swinging on the T-side to pick up two rounds, but TYLOO were relentless on the defense and hit back with seven straight to level the score at 12-12, forcing SK to pause - a move that did not pay off as they would watch their opponents continue their streak.
SK finally stamped a round on the board to put an end to TYLOO’s streak and pressed on to reach match point. However, the Chinese team weren’t going down without a fight and forced overtime off of a quad-kill from somebody. In the overtime rounds, SK were unable to overcome TYLOO, who won four out of five rounds to secure the 19-16 win.

The following match, also played on Mirage and featuring Cloud9 and Grayhound going head-to-head, saw the North Americans set the tone early with four straight on the CT-side. Grayhound finally ended the streak thanks to Erdenetsogt "erkaSt" Gantulga's quad kill in A, but Cloud9 wasted to time to tack on two more for the 6-1 lead.
Grayhound finally got a break in round 8 with a triple-kill from Sean "Gratisfaction" Kaiwai to put an end to Cloud9’s reign, and they followed that up with four more to reduce the deficit to one. But then Cloud9’s economy finally saw full strength and carried the North Americans through the remaining four rounds of the half to secure a 10-5 halftime lead.
The second half kicked off with Cloud9 aggressively securing three straight on the T-side before Grayhound put their foot down for their first of the half. However, Tarik "tarik" Celik came up huge for Cloud9 in the following round with a quad-kill in a post-plant situation to pave the way for the ELEAGUE Major champions to seal a comprehensive victory.
